5 expectations that employees insist on from their manager

Virtually all employees have a short list of demands of their managers.  Sure, you could magnify this list multiple times particularly when you as a manager have had a bad day.  All kidding aside, there are only  5 things that successful managers need that their employees will be appreciative of.

Never compromise your integrity ~ You look for integrity and honesty in your people.  They do as well.  Always Walk the Talk and never ask of your employees what you would not do yourself!  Trust your employees and EARN their trust and also their respect for you!

Be Knowledgeable and Always BE Willing to Learn ~ Don’t be a stuffed shirt and claim that you “know it all”.  Things in the marketplace change  quickly and successful leaders realize that they need to transform as well.  Take a “humility measure” from time to time and make certain that you are not the “know it all” that sometimes comes, particularly in the case of the newly anointed Manager!  Be open to adopting the “best practices” that surely will come your way!  The only way that you can do this is to listen to your people!

Be a Champion of your people ~ Always be ready to praise and recognize your people for the good that they do on a daily basis.  Speak and follow the “Golden Rule”.  Sing from the rooftops when you are in a group session or speaking with upper management about the great things that your people do.  Never criticize an individual or the group in public!

Be a Great Listener ~ Good is simply not good enough!  You have to be a “first-class” listener when your people want to discuss things with you.  Your capacity to truly pay attention to your employees is paramount to creating an environment that is positive and conducive for success!  Keep in mind, the employee may not be looking for answers…they simply want to talk and look for an ear of someone they respect!

Your job is to ALWAYS Develop your employees ~ From the moment you hire your employee until the moment they leave the organization or are hopefully promoted into their new department, you are there for ONE reason – Development and Growth – Never forget this and never, ever give up on an employee that you bring to your team!

Our jobs are fairly easy to define.  The tough part is in our actions.  Good selling and best of success to you!
